Oldies, goldies. Texture has been more important then, rather than the design. Getting to know the materials; jute, cotton, wool, fabric, cords all different fibers have been put together. Each adds depth and heights of different kind; giving the weaver a playground. Beads here and there. Different weaving knots. İdeal for warming up the walls. Yet carries the crucial mission of warding off the evil eye.

This is an eye.  

The amulet motif of Bergama rugs, as tear drops, is introduced  to this minimalist design starting with the first knots. Gorgeous antrachite cotton fibers have thrown themselves over the softness of the off white sheep of Anatolia. I do not prefer using black as it steals role. The hot Turkish red is to crown as always. Regardless of the combative purple, the warmness of dark yellow promises hope. 

Disturbed, confused and cross-eyed, undertakes the duty to cross the envious looks. 

I try to harvest together local Anatolian themes like amulates, evil eyes with kilim knots in enjoyable plain designs. A traditional art yet in contemporary lines, neat and to the point. Trimmed of all excesses.

In this art weaving a huge eye is placed; huge that overflows the frame. Among the choice of simple colors red is the queen, others are there for her to reign.

Shahmaran is a mythical creature in Iran, Anatolia and Iraq. Shah is the title given  primarily for the leader of the Iranians and their land and “Mar-an” means snakes. Shahmaran is known as the queen of the serpents. Shahmaran female figure, whose upper body is human and lower part is snake, is freed from her details and the focus is directed to the enchanting eyes in this weaving.

Weaved with jute and cotton fibers, this wall hanging tapestry balances the strong hue of red and violet with natural smoothness of jute.

The muska/amulet design which is commonly used in Anatolian kilims is enlarged with a little bit playing around to be the woven evil eye on the wall. Triangular amulets often represented in Bergama rugs (16th/17th century) supposed to have magical powers. The triangular amulet pattern is united with evil eye design; purified from its excess details, reinterpreted and carried to a huge size wall tapestry. 

The weaving is stretched over carcase covered with raw cotton fabric.
