A vertical and relatively biggertapestry for the wall. Tapestry from Aegean to Mediterranean collection. No blue this time. With its sea, the sun, houses, evil eye and beads a true Agean. A relaxed and freestyle weaving.

A three dimensional weaving piece. A textile sculpture of a moody woman. Dry and driftwood which are held together with strong wire are used for the under structure. Jute, sisal and cotton fibres and ropes are wrapped all over this fiberart piece. One can find dance, mourning, cry out, rebeling and even maybe a broken joy if you look deep into it. The little belly and the hump in her back reveal her Mediterranean soul, even if you happen to ignore the blue and white waves at her skirt.

Üzerlik herb is used as a talisman against “evil-eye” from ancient times to up to now. Mostly seen in east Mediterranean region, its habitat is semi-arid conditions including steppe areas (sometimes salty soil), from sea level to 1500 m. If a person is thought to be exposed to evil eye, a part from that person’s outfit is cut, shredded into seven pieces, is burned together with the üzerlik herb.      The ornaments made with beads and shredded fabrics are also called üzerlik. Snakes are thought to be prevented out of homes with these ornaments.

The galleon figure is widely used in İznik tiles symbolizing the Ottoman navy. Dragons, clouds and seagulls escort the figure. Blue has always been the main color. Surprising for all, all the ships are situated as going west. Three dimensional effect given to the mast by embossing wrap over the base weaving.

This tapestry carries figure of hand of Fatima to the walls along with the astonishing deep blue colors of Mediterranean sea. The figure of evil eye placed on the palm presents the warm caressing feeling of a prayer.

These weavings which I unite traditional patterns with astonishing knots add the environment they are placed deepness, warmth, richness.

Melanura fish live near the coastline where the rocks meets the sand in Aegean and Mediterranean seas. They are a part of the common sea life yet are not easy to catch. Possibly mocking us from where they are.

The weaving is ready to be hanged with the wooden rod mounted on the top.
