Another story of the Sun and the Eye. The sun, symbolizing hope, will pour into our soul with all of its warmth clearing off all black clouds, obstacles, mountains, cliffs, whatever. It will be the Eye, a powerful stare, blowing out the evil. 

While the forest fires in Turkey’s Aegean region ate our hearts out, sadness and tears melded in the loops in summer of 2021. The evil eye with its numerous connotations has its vast presence in our culture. In the idioms, local prayers, anonymous sayings one will easily encounter.

The repeating eye motif, all wrapped up in the warmest browns and an enchanting shade of orange, is assuring the strength of the prayer for warding off the evil. When placed in a living room or a sleeping room or better in the entrance, this weaving is sure to add comfort and confidence to that home. 

Shahmaran is a mythical creature in Iran, Anatolia and Iraq. Shah is the title given  primarily for the leader of the Iranians and their land and “Mar-an” means snakes. Shahmaran is known as the queen of the serpents. Shahmaran female figure, whose upper body is human and lower part is snake, is freed from her details and the focus is directed to the enchanting eyes in this weaving.

Weaved with jute and cotton fibers, this wall hanging tapestry balances the strong hue of red and violet with natural smoothness of jute.

The muska/amulet design which is commonly used in Anatolian kilims is enlarged with a little bit playing around to be the woven evil eye on the wall. Triangular amulets often represented in Bergama rugs (16th/17th century) supposed to have magical powers. The triangular amulet pattern is united with evil eye design; purified from its excess details, reinterpreted and carried to a huge size wall tapestry. 

The weaving is stretched over carcase covered with raw cotton fabric.
